Executive Update: January 2023

In this update:

New Program Alert: Leaders of Influence

Do you have a rising student leader in SkillsUSA? Have them apply to the new Leaders of Influence program. The SkillsUSA Illinois Leaders of Influence program is an opportunity for select SkillsUSA leaders from across the state to develop their personal and workplace skills focused around preparing them for their career path.

Selected leaders will receive over $2,000 in value from participating in this program, including SLSC and NLSC registration and accommodations as well as a $500 personal development scholarship.

Application deadline is February 13, 2023. For more information, visit the Leaders of Influence program page.

Deadline Approaching to Take Advantage of SLSC Discounted Registration

Every chapter is encouraged to participate in the Chapter Excellence Program and there are three award levels to recognize program involvement. The first two levels are acknowledged by a chapter’s state association and the third level is recognized nationally through Models of Excellence. Each level is designed to give chapters a benchmark for success and future improvement, leading to stronger chapters and more prepared students. The more a chapter applies the Framework in a meaningful and measured way, the greater the chance for CEP honors.

SkillsUSA Illinois offers heavily discounted registration to the State Leadership & Skills Conference based on Chapter Excellence Program participation.

Full Registration: $155 | CEP Level 1 Chapters: $140 | CEP Level 2 Chapters: $125

The application is open in SkillsUSA Register (register.skillsusa.org) and the deadline to apply is March 10, 2023. For more information, visit https://skillsusaillinois.org/cep.

SkillsUSA Illinois is seeking Day of Volunteers and judges for this year’s State Leadership & Skills Conference on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, IL. We have a variety of opportunities available to support the conference this year. Please reach out to your local business and industry members, school leaders, and community members who would like to help support our conference this year and share this registration link: https://skillsusaillinois.org/slsc23-friday-volunteer

ISBE Seeking Work-based Learner Employer Feedback

Work-based learning is an essential experience for our student members and can’t be accomplished without our business and industry partners. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) wants to hear from these partners and has created a Work-Based Learning Survey. Please invite your employer partners to complete the short survey. ISBE will utilize the responses to highlight employer champions providing work-based learning opportunities for school districts.

New Championships Policies Approved

Last month, SkillsUSA Illinois surveyed advisors regarding two proposed Championships polices addressing clothing requirements and observers. We had an overwhelming response in favor of the adoption and enforcement of these policies. The two policies have been adopted as written. Final versions can be found below:

SLSC Housing Exemption Application – Deadline: March 1

As stated in the SkillsUSA Illinois Policy Manual, all SkillsUSA Illinois conference participants must stay within an assigned housing block. All registered members for the conference must be assigned to a room using the SkillsUSA Illinois reservation process. The only exception to this is that chapters within 30 miles of the conference site can apply for an exemption to this policy each year by the first business day of March. Please visit the SLSC page for more information.

Red Jacket to Your Dream (SLSC) Scholarships – Now Open

SkillsUSA Illinois’ network of more than 400+ business and industry partners believe in our mission and the value of participating in SkillsUSA Framework skill development at the State Leadership & Skills Conference.
